Jack Mundey and The Yarranabbe Park Trees
  • Jack Mundey died aged 90 on 8 May 2020 and the Society pays tribute to him as a pioneer of conservation and preservation.

  • Jack was the first true environmentalist and as Secretary of the NSW Builders federation (NSWBLF) he is the pioneer of the Green Bans movement of the mid-1960’s.  The green bans were of 3 kinds: to defend open spaces from various kinds of development; to protect existing houses from demolition to make way for freeways or high-rise developments and to preserve older style  buildings  from replacement by office blocks or shopping precincts. Despite community opposition council was going ahead with removing the trees from Yarranabbe Park.

  • A resident of Darling Point, Eric…. Introduced the Society to the CFMEU (the BLF) executive and they agreed to support our quest to keep the trees.

Thank you, Jack, your memory lives on through your achievements.”
