New Woollahra Municipal Council initiative

Updated: Dec 9, 2021

Renaming and reopening of the Woollahra Library at Redleaf

The beautiful 122 year old historic house previously known as St Brigid’s is to be reopened as a public art space and art gallery.

Previously the Woollahra Library at 538 New South Head Road, Double Bay and owned by Woollahra Council since the 1950s, the historic house is to be renamed OpenHouse at Redleaf and transformed into an Art gallery.

Over time it has had a varied history, used as a library and a children’s library and playspace it also served as the headquarters of a Royal commission on espionage.

The refurbished gallery will be both a community space where everyone is welcome as well as a contemporary commercial enterprise where artists are exhibiting and selling their art.

We may even see a new format of the Poet’s Picnic a very popular event at Redleaf.
