Safety improvements at major Edgecliff intersection

Road users at Edgecliff will soon benefit from improved safety with the installation of upgraded traffic lights at the intersection of New South Head Road and Ocean Street.

Member for Vaucluse, Gabrielle Upton MP said the NSW Government is installing a new overhead traffic light post as part of the NSW Safer Roads Program.

“The new mast will improve the visibility of the traffic lights for westbound vehicles, making it safer for road users approaching this busy intersection near Edgecliff railway station,” Ms Upton said.

“The traffic lights at the intersection will also be upgraded to improve pedestrian safety, by holding vehicles at the lights to provide additional time for people to cross the road.

“The work will start on Monday 17 February 2020 and is scheduled to be complete by Thursday 9 April 2020, weather permitting.”

To reduce the impact on motorists, work on the project will be carried out at night between 8pm and 5am from Sunday to Friday. To minimise any potential disruption to the local community, Transport for NSW will not work on the project more than two nights a week, or more than six nights a month. Traffic control and a reduced speed limit will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists during work hours. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
